Time is something impossible to see and touch, what makes the whole concept of it even more powerful and mysterious. In this project I tried to visualise and translate the idea of time through textiles.
I created a series of long exposure photographs capturing movement of the mundane world that I then decided to represent as a constant line – something that has no beginning and no end. The final product of that investigation is a skirt that was knitted on a knitting machine using wool yarns and strips of silk. A thread in textiles can be compared to a simple line. So many complicated things can be constructed from a line, just like a whole new garment can be made out of a simple thread of yarn. The mood of the pictures is translated through the colour choices for the final garment and the difference in the weight of materials and the contrast between loose and tightly-knitted threads show the translucency and the intangibility of time.
